Court arrests suspect of stealing bank client data for 2 months

VOLGOGRAD, Oct 25 (PRIME) -- The central district court of Russia’s Volgograd on Friday arrested Anton Buturlakin suspected of stealing personal client data from several banks for two months, until December 24.

According to investigators, Buturlakin received 40,000 rubles for transferring data of top lender Sberbank’s clients to third parties and was acting under the Anton2131 nickname.

Buturlakin said in court he is working at National Recovery Service and sold the database of debtors to a person who deals with bankruptcy issues.

Kommersant business daily reported on Thursday that a seller on an illegal Internet resource claimed to possess private data of Sberbank clients, which might be a second data leak from the bank since September.

The Interior Ministry said later in the day that an employee of National Recovery Service was detained on suspicion of stealing personal client data from several banks, including Sberbank. The bank said later it will cancel the contract with the collection agency.
